Stellar Organic Winery at South African Embassy

Sunday, July 5th, 2009

Stellar Winery along with the South African embassy hosted an event last Thursday 25 June to celebrate South African fair trade wine.

I was at the event, and met some great people in this growing industry. Divine Chocolate was there and showed off there newest chocolate bars, which I admittedly devoured.

There are about 25 fair trade wines in the market right now…. and growing, along with fair trade beers and spirits! In the UK the fair trade movement is huge and right now these beverages are readily avaialble… are we ready New York??? The time has come to purchase food, crafts and other items which have been fairly sourced — where the artisan is paid and treated fairly.

All with hand embroidered flowers and butterflies by women in Nicaragua. Daily Candy mentioned Via Nativa & Sweet William in this lovely article!

Sunday, July 5th, 2009

Green in BKLYN at 432 Myrtle Avenue opened just a few months ago in the heart of Fort Greene. The first store of it’s kind in the area carries sustainable and eco-friendly household items, cleaners, even nail polish and nail polish remover without formaldehyde. They now have Via Nativa wood earrings with spalted wood! Spalting gives the earrings an organic and marbelized look while the shape is simple and elegant (click here for a wiki definition of spalted wood).
